TITLES
At the beginning of any trailer there is usually the generic green screen telling the viewer if the content of the trailer is suitable for all audiences. This is a legal necessity for any trailer but also has links to the film rating company and organisation mpaa (Motion Picture Association of America). We decided not to change the colour to keep the professional appearance.
We animated our title with the tagline using the 'bad TV' effect on Final Cut, noticeably changing the orientation of the R and the E so they faced the wrong way. We did this to convey the disordered nature of the film directly within the title. Nathan's voiceover also works well with the title which we synced together.
We made sure to add reviews within the trailer, keeping the font of the quote the same as the title and tagline to ensure it remained consistent throughout the trailer. The white and red allows the text to stand out from the background, in which we used an neurological effect to represent the genre of the film. The background does move, showing synapses firing off, and links to our killer's mental state. We decided to keep the 'Time' the same as it is a separate brand identity. The review also links to the genre of our trailer and the phonetic alliteration makes it more memorable.
Like 'Time' we made sure to keep 'Empire' in the same font as shown on our magazine cover since it is a different company which is now associated with our trailer because of the review they gave. Typical one liners such as 'spectacular', 'fantastic', 'breath taking' and 'simply stunning' makes our trailer look more genuine and professional looking. We needed to carefully consider what words to use in the review to relate to the horror genre as well as the specific sub-genre we chose to prevent confusion. 'Spectacular' was simple and effective, and like most reviews on screen, needs to be short to keep up with the pace of the trailer as well as making sure the viewer can read it.
Trailers will generally have the release date featured to ensure the audience knows when the film will be released and therefore when they can go and watch it at the cinema. We thought this winter would be best since the days are shorter and its get darker earlier, creating ideal conditions to watch a horror movie on a night out.
The links to social media are usually shown at the end of the trailer, providing access to online content which people can post on, comment on or search for more information about the film. We also included a website link specifically for our movie so people can be directed to an official web page.
