CASTING
It is imperative we cast the right people for the right roles. The majority of our cast includes teenagers as a young cast would appeal to a larger audience than if we had a majority of older people we casted. We also required someone with a mature face for our antagonist as they needed to stand out from the victims and show that he is dominant.
We did not need to use the same actor for different roles which was beneficial since in most of the shots you would be able to see their faces of each character. We needed many victims for the shot we planned at the end of our trailer where the murderer is surrounded by the bodies of the people he killed, otherwise it wouldn't have the impact we wanted on our audience.

NATHAN- The physcopathic murderer who sees an apparition that urges him to kill.
We chose Nathan because of his mature appearance and his height naturally makes him look dominant and in power.
His voice was also ideal and we used it throughout the trailer as non-diegetic sound over the top of shots, giving the trailer an iconic sinister feel. |
JENNY- The apparition that only the murderer can see
The apparition can be seen watching over Nathan as he kills. We chose Jenny as she is also tall and therefore effectively shows that the apparition has power over Nathan's character. Her dark clothing and hair obscured some of her features, making her look less human and more sinister.
WILL- The first victim
We used Will as an unconventional first victim. Typically in horrors, women are the main victims but we challenged this stereotype by using a male character. Will is seen wearing a suit and isn't much shorter than Nathan's character, so it may surprise the audience that he could be killed so quickly. It also suggests that no one is safe from the murderer and presents him as an even more dangerous character.
ALEX- Second victim
Alex was also an unconventional victim and enforces the power the murderer has over his victims. He also had the physical ability and strength to hang from the tree in the hanging scene. Seeing the way the murderer kills for a second time, a trend begins to appear with the murderer's choice of killing being suffocation.
AMBER-Third victim
We decided to cast female victims as well to break the trend that the murderer is only killing male characters. It may conform to the female victim stereotype but it shows the audience yet again that no one is safe from our killer. Her death does follow the trend as she is drowned, essentially suffocating to death.
WIK- Fourth victim
As our final victim, we wanted a quick death scene as the trailer builds in tension and suspense. We used another female victim as to balance the gender in the trailer, which is particularly evident in the final scene. Using male and female victims also appeals to a wider audience.
